Access Consultant | Kat Germain

Kat is a member of: Canadian Association of Theatre Research, Audio Description Association (UK), ACTRA, Ontario College of Teachers. She sits on the Described Video Best Practices (DVBP) Committee, is an Access Advisor for the Wee Festival of Theatre and Culture for Early Years, and an Access Activator (training and consultation for Relaxed Performances).

Kat has Audio Described (AD) everything from Amputee Aerial Circus Arts, to Deaf poetry, to wheelchair basketball.

Clients include: WeeFestival, Stratford Festival, Young People’s Theatre, CBC, Theatre Direct, Luminato, National Arts Centre, Paper Canoe Projects, Native Earth Performing Arts, Tangled Art + Disability, Cahoots Theatre, Full Radius Dance (Atlanta, GA), Power Productions (St. John’s NL), Confederation Centre (P.E.I.).

Kat has taught for nearly 25 years. In 2001 she was hired by the Toronto District School Board and primarily works in intensive support classrooms with kids who are neurodiverse. In 2019 she revised Ontario Curriculum documents for the Little People of Ontario. Kat has led/ facilitated workshops for YPT, AGO, ROM, OCAD, Infinity Forge/ CCS Inc., CCB Visionaries, Picasso Pro.

Kat is developing techniques for AD as a learning tool for babies and toddlers (affectionately: “Wee-Scription”), and Relaxed Audio Description (“RAD”) for relaxed performances.
