“You be the Sun!” Looking Back on the WeeFestival

Dorothy and I did a little debrief this morning after watching every WeeFestival show together.

A Bucket of Beetles and The Cozy One-Man Band stood out as her favourites, but every piece had magical moments that have been infiltrating our imaginations all week. She also really loved Derek and Thurga. It was so nice, during these isolated, stay-at-home times, to feel like they were watching the shows with us. We appreciated the context they provided at the top, and we always did the tree stretch with them at the end. Dorothy knows a little bit of ASL, and she picked up a new sign – Enjoy – throughout the week. So, thank you Derek and Thurga!

Creature of habit and lover of repetition that she is, we re-watched Old Man and the River… several times. (We also re-watched Tweet Tweet which we’d experienced for the first time in person a couple of WeeFestivals ago.) I wanted to share some of our conversation about it with you here.

A big thank you to all of the artists who created such wonderful work for the WeeFestival, and to Lynda for inviting Dorothy and I along for the ride. We can’t wait to see what you’ll have in store next year.

And here is Xin Wang’s last post!

As we come to the end of the WeeFestival. I sigh and say to myself, I hope many many children watched this instead of their usual tv shows. Watching a WeeFestival performance online or in person, a child, a parent is required to discover and pay attention as much as the performer. It is an experience through many parts of the brain. It is refreshing! I hope you have all enjoyed it! I did. As I always have and will!
