About Marcia

Marcia Johnson is an actor, playwright, librettist and dramaturge based in Toronto. Her most recent play Serving Elizabeth, in which she also acted, had its world premiere at Western Canada Theatre in Kamloops in February 2020 and is published by Scirocco Drama.

Other plays (selected): Binti’s Journey (based on The Heaven Shop by Deborah Ellis) and commissioned by Theatre Direct has had several runs over the years and co-produced by Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Black Theatre Workshop and Young Peoples Theatre; Late produced by Obsidian Theatre Company and Say Ginger Ale at SummerWorks Festival.

Say Ginger Ale was originally a radio drama for CBC Radio and was a finalist for a Canadian Screenwriting award. Her radio drama Perfect on Paper (which had its start at the Toronto Fringe Festival) was a silver medalist at the New York Festivals.

Marcia also writes opera libretti, directs audiobooks and sits on several committees and organizations in support of marginalized and under-represented people in the arts.
